Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway To Present Thanksgiving Winter Blast Race This Saturday
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will be bringing their high energy, nationally televised, form of racing to the Havasu 95 Speedway on April 14th. The 150 lap K&N Pro Series West feature is being promoted by Bill McAnally Racing, BMR, a well known West Series championship team owner, who will be leasing the Havasu 95 Speedway to promote this special racing weekend.
This NASCAR K&N Pro Series West event is being presented by Gene Price Motorsports with additional sponsorship being provided by Napa Auto Parts and Toyota.
Under the most normal circumstances, it takes a great deal of logistics to make one of these West Series events work. But, in the case of the April 14th Havasu 95 Speedway date, there were a series of adjustments that had to be made that involved both the quarter mile oval in Lake Havasu City as well as the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway located in Blythe-California.
For many years now, speedway promoters Bill Rozhon, Havasu 95 Speedway, and Greg Scheidecker, Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway, have been working hand in hand while coordinating their respective winter racing series schedules. Additionally, both men are also the major principals behind the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series, a highly acclaimed and successful regional touring series in the western states. In short, resolving conflicts regarding schedules and racing divisions was just a short matter of time spent on the telephone.
Most of all Scheidecker and Rozhon wanted to to make this special West Series race work for their long time friend and colleague Gene Price, The proprietor of the Quartzsite-Arizona based Gene Price Motorsports. A famed distributor of high performance racing parts as well as a race car fabrication center, Gene Price is a strong supporter of both speedways. He sponsors their Late Model River Series, a special points championship held at both tracks, as well as the Legend Cars Series which employs a similar dual track points system.
To establish his NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race, Bill McAnally leased the Havasu 95 Speedway. He chose April 14th for a race date because he observed that it was available on the speedway's schedule. With the speedway operation on an every other weekend schedule, the McAnally decision placed Rozhon in the position of running a race over three consecutive weekends. Of equal importance was the fact that the West Series date conflicted with the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway's April 14th night of racing which, ironically, featured the Gene Price Motorsports Late Models. Two telephone conference calls later, Scheidecker and Rozhon made typical quick work of resolving any and all conflicts which included re routing the Gene Price Late Models to the Havasu 95 Speedway on April 14th.
The revised schedule for the Havasu 95 Speedway is as follows:
April 14th: Bill McAnally Racing presents the Napa/Toyota 150 for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Series, presented by Gene Price Motorsports. The evening also includes a 50 lap main event for the Gene Price Motorsports Late Model River Series which will settle their season championship. The Gene Price Motorsports I Love Legends Series will run a 30 lap main event which will also crown a series champion. The Factory Stocks will run a 15 lap main event. Due to the full schedule, the speedway's regular divisions will be racing in main events only. The normal policy of heat races and trophy dashes will not be observed. The April 21st night of racing has been cancelled.
All of this change does not mean that Blythe area racing fans are going to miss a night of racing action. Those who know Greg Scheidecker, are well aware that when he starts working the telephone results are achieved. On April 14th the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway will be treating their fans to a special evening led by the Southwest Tour Trucks, a regional touring organization featuring full size racing trucks. Also on the schedule is a 50 lap, $500 to win, for the Street Stocks along with racing from the fan favorite Factory Stocks. The speedway will also treat its fans to a blast from the past with some exciting open wheeled vintage race cars presented by the Western Racing Association along with the West Coast Vintage Racing Association.
